McLaren MP4/4 Display Model
This 1:1 scale model depicts the McLaren MP4/4 car driven to a World Driver’s Championship title by Ayrton Senna during the 1988 Formula One season. The replica is said to have been constructed by hand in Europe utilizing a mix of carbon-fiber and fiberglass, and it wears a #12 white and red livery. Features include front and rear wings, fiberglass wheels, Goodyear-branded tires, faux suspension components, a fixed-back seat, a harness, a replica rain light, and a Persona-branded steering wheel.
The Steve Nichols-designed McLaren MP4/4 debuted at the 1988 Brazilian Grand Prix and secured wins and pole positions in 15 out of 16 races at the hands of drivers Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. This 1:1 scale replica of the #12 car was constructed using fiberglass and carbon-fiber, and it wears a white and red McLaren Formula One Team livery with sponsor logos including Marlboro, Shell, Honda, and Tag Heuer. Additional details consist of front and rear wings, side pods, red-finished side mirrors, an external kill switch, a roll hoop, a rear diffuser, and a replica rain light.
The wheels and tires are constructed with fiberglass, and the latter showcase white Goodyear Eagle lettering. The simulated braking system includes cooling ducts, carbon ceramic rotors, and Honda-branded red calipers, while the replica suspension is comprised of carbon-fiber double-wishbones with push- and pull-rods. A faux auxiliary oil cooler is situated out back.
The cockpit houses a fixed-back seat equipped with a black harness as well as a shifter located to the right of the driver. The Persona-branded steering wheel is wrapped in black Alcantara and fronts simulated switchgear with vehicle warning lights. The seller states that the car weighs approximately 750 pounds and measures 177″ long by 84″ wide and 39″ tall.
The replica is not equipped with running gear or a drivetrain. Mounting points are affixed to the underside that can be used to display the model horizontally or vertically. Imperfections are visible on the right-rear wheel and above the driver’s seat back.
