1965 401-Powered Buick Riviera
This 1965 Buick Riviera was modified prior to the current owner’s 2024 acquisition with an Air-Zenith air suspension setup, a custom dual exhaust system, Detroit Steel Wheel 20″ smoothie wheels, and a refresh of the gray interior. Power is provided by a replacement 401ci Nailhead V8 fitted with a four-barrel carburetor and mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Finished in black with chrome trim, the car is equipped with concealed stacked headlights, tinted power windows, bucket seats, and a Sonomatic AM radio.
The pillarless hardtop coupe bodywork is finished in black, and the owner believes that it was repainted and that the chrome bumpers and trim were re-plated in 2019. The custom dual exhaust setup exits on either side of the car behind the rear wheels. Tinted windows and concealed stacked headlights are also fitted.
An Air-Zenith air suspension setup is installed, and the car rolls on Detroit Steel Wheel 20″ smoothie wheels mounted with redline tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted front and rear drums.
The cabin was refreshed under prior ownership and houses front and rear bucket seats upholstered in gray vinyl that extends to the door panels, while the floors are lined with gray carpets. Switchgear for the air suspension system is housed in the center console and below the left side of the dashboard. Other appointments include power windows and a Sonomatic AM radio.
The two-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column and frames a 140-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges, while a readout for temperature is located below the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 60k miles, approximately 8k of which were added under current ownership.
The replacement 401ci Nailhead V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and a batwing-style air cleaner assembly. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission.
