1961 Chevrolet Impala Convertible 283

This 1961 Chevrolet Impala convertible was repainted and its 283ci V8 was overhauled after the owner purchased the car in 1991. The seller tells us that work in the last five years has included rebuilding the transmission, carburetor, and radiator as well as retrofitting an alternator, replacing the motor for the power soft top, and overhauling the suspension, brakes, and exhaust. Additional equipment includes 14″ wheels, a power-operated white soft top, and a retro-style stereo.

The car left the factory finished in Tuxedo Black and was repainted in 1991. Equipment includes a power-operated white soft top, quad headlights, and a recessed tail panel. The power soft top motor was replaced and a two-speed windshield wiper motor was added during current ownership. The seller notes a full-exterior multi-stage paint correction was performed prior to the sale.

The 14″ wheels wear full covers and are mounted with 205/75 American Classic whitewall tires. The brakes and suspension were overhauled during the refurbishment, which included replacement of the rear shocks. The seating surfaces are trimmed in red and white vinyl, and appointments include a retro-style stereo, red carpets, and Impala-script floor mats.

The two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a horizontal 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and supplementary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 32k miles, approximately 20k of which were added under current ownership. The seller notes that the odometer is not accurate, stating that the owner purchased the car with approximately 105k miles. Total mileage is unknown. The fuel gauge and clock were rebuilt since 2020.

The 283ci Turbo-Fire V8 is said to have been rebuilt after the seller acquired the car in 1991 and was also overhauled in the last five years, which the seller tells us included rebuilding the carburetor and radiator as well as replacing the generator with an alternator.
