37-Years-Owned 1983 Porsche 911SC Targa

This 1983 Porsche 911SC Targa was purchased by the seller on September 27th, 1989, and they have since added approximately 45k miles. Finished in Guards Red over Black leather, the car is powered by a 3.0-liter flat-six paired with a rebuilt five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a removable black roof panel, 16″ Fuchs forged wheels, a short shifter, and an Alpine CD stereo with Bluetooth connectivity hooked to an aftermarket amplifier and speakers.

The car is finished in Guards Red, and exterior equipment includes a removable black roof panel, fog lights, and dual side mirrors. The Carfax report notes an accident with another motor vehicle in December 1989, which the seller attributes to an incident that resulted in damage to the left-front wheel. Exterior work over the years is said to have included repainting the front trunk lid and left rocker panel, replacing the rear bumper cover and rear lamps, and touching up the finish on the left-rear wheel arch. Paint imperfections are displayed in the gallery.

Fuchs 16″ forged alloy wheels were refinished in black with lighter lips in 2021, and they are mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with ventilated rotors. The seller tells us that the steering rack, rear sway bar end links, front brake pads and rotors, and front sway bar bushings and links were replaced in August 2019. The brake fluid was flushed in July 2026.

The Black interior is outfitted with leather seats along with cruise control and metal door pulls. Work in 2016 included installing a short shifter with a wood knob as well as fitting a Bluetooth-capable Alpine CD stereo hooked to an aftermarket amplifier and speakers. The passenger seatbelt was replaced, and the cruise control system was repaired in October 2015. The seller notes that the air conditioning is not working, and cosmetic issues include sagging door panel armrests, cracks on the passenger’s seat bottom, and a worn outer bolster on the driver’s seat.

Instrumentation includes a replacement 170-mph speedometer whose odometer shows 18k miles. The removed speedometer’s odometer broke at its displayed reading of 75,164 miles, and the seller tells us that total chassis mileage is not much higher than the sum of the two figures. The Carfax report notes a potential odometer rollback in October 2013. The steering column was repaired in June 2023, according to the seller. The clock in the instrument panel functions intermittently, and a replacement unit is included in the sale.

The 3.0-liter flat-six features Bosch fuel injection and was factory rated at 172 horsepower and 189 lb-ft of torque. The engine was overhauled in 2015, and the seller tells us that the ignition module, coil, and wires were replaced in August 2025. The intake plenum was replaced in September 2025.

The Carfax report notes the aforementioned accident and potential odometer rollback. The current October 1995-issue New Jersey title notes the mileage as 66,096.
